A Day of Loss

When one loses a parent. It can change them forever. The response of the one they love plays a role in the healing, when they truly care for each other. They pick up the one who wants to do nothing and lock themselves away from the world. I only wish that had been the case in the weeks and months to come.

Our First Anniversary

A day to share the joy of the day that was magical just one year before. And yet a day that nothing seemed to go right. We all gathered. The two of us, our parents... to eat stale cake (which had been frozen) from our wedding and talk about the year. And yet the good things I remember are a box from my parents of all things paper... Paper Plates and Napkins to celebrate all the holidays for the year ahead. And his mother's idea of paper, money. The sad thing is that the money was needed to pay for a repair that night. And that put a dimmer switch on the night, because his mother was so unhappy with us that she didn't let go what happened.
